Who says the Kandersteg valley floor has little to offer trail runners? First, this route follows the magnificent river landscape of the Kander. Second, there are cultural sights of village life along the way, such as the Scout Center or the Buddhist monastery. Third, this trail gains altitude towards the end – the last meters thus provide an impressive panorama close to the center.

Approach

By car via Spiez – Frutigen or the car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

Public Transport

Arrival at Kandersteg train station

South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kandertal: This station, between Brig (38 min) and Bern (61 min), has an hourly schedule – an ideal base for many excursions.

Directions

Follow the train: From Kandersteg train station, first follow the tracks over the Kander and reach the path next to the «Hubbeln» to the «Ruedihus». There, trail runners turn left towards «Doldenhorn» and then take the path to the Kandersteg Scout Center. Via Moos-Steg, the route turns back towards the riverbank of the Kander and runs along the river course until shortly before Bütschels. There, turn left towards the Buddhist monastery Dhammapla before the ascent to the height is tackled. The panorama trail then leads back down to the station.
