The approach to the hut is only possible via glaciers and requires alpine experience, surefootedness, and glacier equipment. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views and the tranquility of the high alpine nature.
Note: The route to the Mutthornhütte is only suitable for experienced mountaineers. Good planning and glacier equipment are mandatory.

The new Mutthornhütte has been erected and will open in mid-June 2026.
The old Mutthornhütte has been completely dismantled.
Reservations are gladly accepted immediately via the hut reservation system.
We look forward to welcoming you at the new Mutthornhütte from the end of June 2026.
Approach
By car via Frutigen or the car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.
Public Transport
Arrival at Kandersteg train station
South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kander valley: For this station between Brig (38 min) and Bern (61 min), the hourly service applies – an ideal base for many excursions.
Parking
The destination is set, the parking spot as well – on this map, drivers quickly and easily find the suitable parking option in the Oberland community. So then: engine off, hiking boot on!
Directions
Von Selden über Heimritz Richtung Kanderfirn. Einstieg auf den Gletscher auf ca. 2300 m, anschliessend über den Firn zur Mutthornhütte.
