The approach to the hut is only via glaciers and requires alpine experience, surefootedness, and glacier equipment. You are rewarded with breathtaking views and the tranquility of the high alpine nature.
Note: The tour to the Mutthorn Hut is only suitable for experienced mountaineers. Good planning and glacier equipment are mandatory.

The new Mutthorn Hut is erected and will open in mid-June 2026.
The old Mutthorn Hut has been completely dismantled.

Approach
By car via Frutigen or the car shuttle train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.
Public Transport
Arrival at Kandersteg train station
South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kandertal: For this station between Brig (38 min) and Bern (61 min), there is an hourly service – an ideal base for many excursions.
Parking
The destination is set, as is the parking spot – on this map, drivers quickly and easily find the suitable parking option in the Oberland community. Well then: engine off, hiking boot on!
Directions
From Selden via Heimritz towards Kanderfirn. Entry onto the glacier at about 2300 m, then over the firn to the Mutthorn Hut.

High mountain tour with glacier crossing: danger of crevasses, rockfall, and difficult navigation in fog. Only undertake with complete glacier equipment and appropriate experience.

Tips
The view of the Kanderfirn and the surrounding peaks is a special highlight. Staying overnight in the self-sufficient Mutthorn Hut is memorable – and the homemade bakery specialties are a real treat after the tour.
