From Kandersteg Railway Station, this trail begins in a leisurely fashion along the River Kander towards the Scout Centre. From here onwards, trail-running sticks are advisable. The curved route climbs narrow paths to an alpine hostelry below Rhyhart and rewards runners with a beautiful panorama of Kandersteg. With renewed strength, there's a slight downhill now towards another hostelry at Lohner and then back to the starting point. This Fortuna Trail takes runners into Kandersteg's wild and romantic alpine world.

Approach

By car via Spiez and Frutigen or the car-train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

Directions

A tour that keeps you fit. After a few kilometres on the level, the terrain begins to change. From the Scout Centre, the path leads uphill along twisting paths via Schneitböde to the alpine hostelry below Rhyhart. The trail runs mostly through forests, making it cool and shady, with beautiful lush nature all around. Once at the highest point, a short break is needed before runners turn their attention to the descent. This leads past the hostelry at Lohner, the Alpbach river and Schwarzbachschwendli back to the valley. Those lucky enough to enjoy this trail during the summer season will be accompanied by the gentle sounds of bells and repeatedly encounter grazing livestock.
