This four-hour mountain route can be described as demanding but rewarding. The view from the First over the ring of the Bernese Alps compensates experienced hikers in every respect.
Approach
Leave the A6 / A8 highway at the Spiez exit towards “Kandersteg / car shuttle train”. Continue to Reichenbach and Frutigen. In Frutigen, leave the bypass via the “Frutigen South” exit towards Adelboden until you reach Achseten. Follow the signpost “Elsigbach” in Achseten and turn left immediately after the second bridge to Elsigbach.

Parking
Parking options are available at the valley station of the Elsigenalp cable car. The parking fee is CHF 5.–. Additional free parking spaces are available at the mountain inn Höchst on Metsch.
Safety Instructions
The last, demanding section to the First (2549 m a.s.l.) is secured with a wire rope. Suitable only for sure-footed hikers. Not recommended in bad weather or snow.
