Alpine culture.
The Färmel Valley is about 400 metres above the valley floor. Mountain farming and - in summer - Alpine farming are its defining images. Our hike leads past Albristen and Wyssenberg, two areas where cattle graze on mountain pastures during the summer. The warm and often humid south-facing areas are productive and well-developed. Larch forests thrive in the warm location. After climbing over the long ridge of Mt. Schatthore, we briefly cross the somewhat exposed crest (2,085 m a.s.l.), the highest point of the day and a nice starting point for many paraglider pilots. One final look up at the mighty Mt. Albristhorn before we make our way down the windy trail to Mt. Laubbärgli.
Highlights:
- Experience cowsheds of all sizes
- Guided tour of the Alp Unter Albrist cheese dairy: Tel. 033 722 15 75
- A glass of fresh Alpine raw milk
- Listen to the mountain streams
- Admire the golden larches in autumn
Host at the stage finish: Berghaus Laubbärgli. Alternative: Berghotel Hahnenmoos (extension of hiking time approx. 1h50) or by bus from Laubbärgli (SBB timetable) down to the village of Lenk.
