Barbecue area Gasterntal
This barbecue area was built by the Lions Club Frutigland with artistic support from Urs Seiler, StoneArt.
Approach
The access road to the Gasterntal valley is located at the very end of Kandersteg, about 400 metres along the main road past the Kandersteg-Sunnbüel cable car. The road leads through a rock gallery and two tunnels into the mountain valley at an altitude of around 1,352 metres above sea level and is only open in summer. An access fee of CHF 20.00 per day is charged to help cover road maintenance costs; this can be paid at the ticket machine or via PayByPhone at the start of the road.
Please note: Please be aware that on the first section of the route through the rock gallery (Chluse), there is a timed schedule and it is not possible for cars to pass each other. Uphill: 45 - 05 / Downhill: 15 - 35.
Winter: The Gasterntal is closed from around mid-November to mid-May and the access road is impassable. The exact dates are published here.
