Projects in the Pipeline

From initial ideas to construction on site: discover exciting infrastructure projects that are being planned or are already under development in our region. Each of them has the potential to become a true game changer for the tourism landscape.

  • Lötschberg Expansion: From bottleneck to a key element of the NEAT network with twin tubes: the full expansion of the Lötschberg Base Tunnel is a major construction project. An additional seven kilometres will be excavated through solid rock to allow trains to run continuously on double tracks. The reward for this effort will be increased capacity for both passenger and freight traffic. How exactly this CHF 1.7 billion project will be implemented will be showcased from June 2026 at a new information centre near Frutigen railway station – from the wooden pavilion, it is only a short walk to the tunnel entrance.

  • Kandersteg–Elsigenalp aerial cableway: Currently, the Elsigen-Metsch ski and hiking area can only be reached via a steep and difficult mountain road. The new direct connection from Kandersteg aims to change this – a milestone for year-round tourism and the development of our destination. Learn more about the project

  • Direttissima: Reach the top in 10 instead of 25 minutes: the planned direct connection from the valley station in Oey (Adelboden) to the Sillerenbühl mountain station will replace the existing gondola lift dating from 1990. The new installation will run directly, bypassing Bergläger, making access to the mountain area much easier. Learn more about the project

  • CRADL: The project, led by the association of the same name, aims to create a connection between Adelboden-Lenk and Crans-Montana, thereby linking the cantons of Bern and Valais. An initial feasibility study is currently being conducted for this ambitious cableway vision in the Wildstrubel and Plaine Morte glacier region.
