Circular snowshoe hike with wonderful distant views of the Gasteretal valley and the village of Kandersteg.

From the Sunnbüel mountain station you hike in a northerly direction along the ridge steadily downwards towards Stock. Through bushes and open forest you reach the uniquely beautiful viewpoint Stock. Here you have a wonderful view of the Gastern valley and the village of Kandersteg. The way back from the Stock leads via the "Wintertäli" (Winter Valley), which is not called that for nothing, steadily uphill towards the Spiezerhütte. It is then not far to the starting point at the Sunnbüel mountain station.

Approach

By car via Spiez - Frutigen or by car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

Public Transport

To the south the Lötschberg, to the north the Kandertal: for this station between Brig (38 min.) and Bern (61 min.) there is an hourly service - an ideal base for many excursions.

The AFA bus runs every hour within 10 minutes from Kandersteg station to the valley station of the cable car. The gondola then takes you comfortably up to 1936 metres above sea level.

Parking

The destination has been decided, and so has the parking space - on this map, drivers can quickly and easily find the right parking option in the Oberland municipality. Well then: engine off, snowshoes on!

Safety Instructions

The signposts of winter hiking trails are pink. The intermediate markings are poles and have a pink tip.
