Many streams flow down from the Niesen mountain chain into the valley. This Frutigen trail, however, goes upstream in the direction of Steinschlaghore. But you don't have to go all the way to the source to reach the magnificent mountain forest and an imposing vantage point high above the village. The descent is no less spectacular and at Bäuert Winklen, the way back is lined with magnificent chalets.

Public Transport

Arrival at Frutigen Railway Station

The train stops here twice an hour and this is the starting point for many tours. 45 minutes from the Swiss capital of Berne, this town is a transportation hub.

Parking

Parking in Frutigen

Find the best places to park in the local area. There's nothing in your way now, so engine off and trail shoes on!

Directions

No unnecessary twists and turns. Leaving Frutigen Railway Station, this trail leads directly upstream along with Leimbach. Soon the terrain becomes more shaded and at the top of Guferwald forest, the trail turns right towards Tanzplatz and on to its highest point at "Tal". The descent now follows a narrow path down to Bäuert Winklen. From here, you can also take the footpath back to Frutigen.
