Who says the Kandersteg valley floor has little to offer trail runners? Firstly, this route follows the magnificent river landscape of the Kander. Secondly, there is also plenty to see of village life along the way, such as the scout centre or the Buddhist monastery. And thirdly, this trail gains altitude towards the end - the last few metres provide an impressive panorama close to the town centre.

Approach

By car via Spiez - Frutigen or by car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

Public Transport

Arrival at Kandersteg railway station

The Lötschberg to the south, the Kandertal to the north: this railway station between Brig (38 min.) and Bern (61 min.) operates an hourly service - an ideal base for many excursions.

Parking

Kandersteg car park list

On this map, drivers can quickly find the right car park in the Oberland municipality. Well then: engine off, trail shoes on!

Directions

Following the train: From Kandersteg railway station, first follow the tracks over the Kander and take the path next to the ‘Hubbeln’ to the ‘Ruedihus’. There, trail runners turn left towards ‘Doldenhorn’ and then take the path to the Kandersteg Scout Centre. Via Moos-Steg, the route turns back towards the banks of the Kander and runs along the course of the river until shortly before Bütschels. There you turn left towards the Buddhist monastery of Dhammapla before tackling the ascent to Höh. The panoramic trail then takes you back down to the railway station.
