Who says the Kandersteg valley floor has little to offer trail runners? First, this route follows the magnificent river landscape of the Kander. Second, there are cultural sights of village life along the way, such as the Scout Center or the Buddhist monastery. Third, this trail gains altitude towards the end – the last meters thus provide an impressive panorama close to the center.

Approach

By car via Spiez – Frutigen or the car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

Public Transport

Arrival at Kandersteg train station

South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kandertal: This station, between Brig (38 min) and Bern (61 min), has an hourly schedule – an ideal base for many excursions.

Directions

Following the train tracks: From Kandersteg station, you first follow the tracks across the River Kander and reach the ‘Ruedihus’ via the path alongside the ‘Hubbeln’. From there, trail runners continue along the village road towards ‘Doldenhorn’ and then take the path to the Kandersteg Scout Centre. Via Moos-Steg, the route turns back towards the banks of the Kander and follows the course of the river until just before Bütschels. There, you turn left towards the Dhammapla Buddhist monastery before tackling the ascent to Höh. The Panorama Trail then takes you back down to the station.
