After travelling from Reichenbach im Kandertal via Kiental to Griesalp, the E250 section of the Eiger Ultra Trail E250 begins at Bundstäg. From there, the route climbs steadily towards Bundalp and continues up to the Hohtürli Pass. The trail largely follows the historic Via Alpina through the impressive mountain scenery of the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way, runners are rewarded with spectacular views of the Blüemlisalp peaks, Lake Oeschinen, and the Kandertal valley. After crossing the Hohtürli Pass, runners face a technically demanding descent towards Kandersteg before arriving at the aid station located at the village schoolhouse. This is also where the Lifebase Kandersteg is situated, organised by the local volunteer team.

Safety Instructions

The section crossing the Hohtürli Pass is high-alpine terrain and requires sure-footedness, good physical condition, and alpine experience. Sudden weather changes, fog, or remaining snowfields can occur even in July. In uncertain conditions, the tour should not be underestimated. Checking the latest weather forecast and carrying appropriate equipment are strongly recommended.

Even officially open hiking trails may still be partially covered with snow. The route is undertaken at your own risk: Tourism Adelboden-Lenk-Kandersteg accepts no liability for the use of local routes.

Tips

Anyone exploring the route outside of race day should start early and allow plenty of time for the passage over the Hohtürli Pass. This impressive section along the historic Via Alpina can easily be explored in advance or used as a demanding training route. On clear days, the views stretch from the high-alpine mountain scenery all the way to Lake Thun.
