From Selden, follow the valley towards Heimritz. There is a hiking trail on both sides of the Kander that continues towards Kanderfirn. At the latest in Gantbödeli, you should cross the Kander on the small suspension bridge. The source of the Kander lies beneath the Kanderfirn, a large glacier in the Petersgrat area. The name Kander goes back to pre-Roman *kando- meaning "white, bright, clear."

Approach

By car via Spiez – Frutigen or the car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

Public Transport

South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kander Valley: This train station between Brig (38 min) and Bern (61 min) has hourly service – an ideal base for many excursions.
