Who needs the gondola here? Those who decide on the mountain run to Heuberg gladly take the 500-meter ascent from the Kandersteg valley floor under their soles themselves. Because with it, runners choose a route with a unique view of the Blüemlisalp, the Doldenhorn group, and the azure blue Oeschinensee. But the circular route not only takes you to high viewpoints – the return path also runs directly along the idyllic lake shore.
Approach
Arrival via tunnel or lake view: drivers can come via Spiez–Frutigen or with the car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.
Public Transport
Arrival at Kandersteg train station
South of Lötschberg, north of the Kandertal: This station between Brig (38 min) and Bern (61 min) has an hourly service.
Parking
On this map, drivers can easily find the suitable parking opportunity in the Upper Valley community. Well then: engine off, trail shoe on!
Directions
The starting point of the running adventure is at Kandersteg train station: there you follow the signposts to the valley station of the Oeschinen gondola. Now turn right via "Huble" upwards towards Oeschinensee. Shortly before the mountain lake, runners turn left – this is where the Heuberg circular route is reached. It first takes you to the viewpoint at 1940 m above sea level and then to Oberbärgli. Via Underbärgli, the trail then descends back to Oeschinensee.
Safety Instructions
This trail leads through steep grassy areas – we therefore strongly advise against walking it in bad weather.
The more extreme the conditions, the more important the equipment. Longer tours in the mountains require, for example, weatherproof clothing and a small running backpack with provisions.
