Who needs the cable car here? Those who opt for the mountain run to the Heuberg are happy to tackle the 500 metre ascent from the Kandersteg valley floor themselves. Runners choose a route with a unique view of the Blüemlisalp, the Doldenhorn group and the azure Oeschinensee. The circular route not only takes you to high vantage points - the way back also runs directly along the idyllic lakeshore.
Approach
Arrival with tunnel or lake view: Car drivers can reach Kandersteg via Spiez-Frutigen or by car train from Goppenstein.
Public Transport
The Lötschberg to the south, the Kandertal to the north: this railway station between Brig (38 min.) and Bern (61 min.) operates an hourly service.
Parking
On this map, drivers can easily find the right car park in the Oberland municipality. Well then: engine off, trail shoe on!
Directions
The starting point of this running adventure is at Kandersteg railway station: follow the signs to the valley station of the Oeschinen gondola lift. Now turn right via ‘Huble’ up towards Oeschinensee. Shortly before the mountain lake, runners turn left - this brings them to the Heuberg circular trail. This first takes you to the viewpoint at 1940 metres above sea level and then up to Oberbärgli. The trail then runs back down to Lake Oeschinen via Underbärgli.
Safety Instructions
This trail leads through steep grassy areas - we therefore strongly advise against tackling it in bad weather.
The more extreme the conditions, the more important the equipment. Longer tours in the mountains, for example, require weatherproof clothing and a small running backpack with food.
