The approach to the hut is exclusively via glaciers and requires alpine experience, surefootedness and glacier equipment. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views and the tranquillity of high alpine nature.
Note: The tour to the Mutthornhütte is only suitable for experienced mountaineers. Good planning and glacier equipment are essential.

The new Mutthornhütte has been erected and will open at the end of June 2026.
The old Mutthornhütte has been completely dismantled.

By car via Frutigen or by car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

Public Transport

Arrival at Kandersteg railway station

The Lötschberg to the south, the Kandertal to the north: this railway station between Brig (38 min.) and Bern (61 min.) operates an hourly service - an ideal base for many excursions.

The destination has been decided, as has the parking space - this map helps drivers to quickly and easily find a suitable parking space in the Oberland municipality. Well then: engine off, hiking boots on!

Even open hiking trails may still be partially covered in snow. Hiking is at your own risk: Tourismus Adelboden-Lenk-Kandersteg accepts no liability for the use of local routes.
