The first part of the hike is taken comfortably on the Betelberg gondola lift and most of the ascent is already behind you. From the Leiterli, the path initially leads along the flat, flowering alpine roses in the direction of Steinstoss. Shortly before reaching the Steinstoss, a path branches off to the right. The trail leads uphill and downhill to the Stüblenipass and then continues left over the mountain ridge to the Tungelpass. Once you reach the Tungelpass, the hiking trail continues over gravel up the Hengstensprung, which has anchored ropes to make the ascent easier. Once you have overcome the steeper ascent, continue in the direction of the Wildhornhütte. The path branches off to the right and leads over a scree field. Once you have rounded the Niesenhorn, you can soon see the Wildhornhütte SAC and walk the last 15 minutes or so to the inviting terrace. After an overnight stay in the SAC hut at 2,303 m above sea level, you are refreshed and ready to tackle the descent to the deep blue Iffigsee and then on to Iffigenalp. At Iffigenalp there is a refreshment stop and a bus stop for a leisurely return to the valley.
