The start of the route is either at Iffigenalp, which can only be reached by taxi in winter, or at Hubelmatte. Starting from Hubelmatte, the Iffigenalp road is quickly left and climbed over fields to Fallweid. Here a short section of the Iffigenalp road is followed through the forest to Ritzdole. Then it continues through field and forest towards Langermatte. The last 150 meters of elevation are climbed in open terrain. Langermatte is a high plateau with a brilliant view of the Wildstrubel and Laufbodenhorn.

From Langermatte the route bypasses the steeper slopes to Alp Langer. From here the summer road is followed to Chäli. From Chäli it goes through clearings and deep snow-covered forest sections. The last part of the descent leads down the snow-covered road to the Simmenfälle restaurant.

Approach

From Lenk towards Iffigenalp to the Hubelmatte parking lot. The route leads to the Simmenfälle, so travel by bus or taxi makes more sense.

Public Transport

From Lenk station by bus to Alpenrösli. Very limited departure times. Timetable: SBB

From Alpenrösli walk 15 min downhill along the road to Hubelmatte.

Parking

There are almost no parking spaces at Hubelmatte in winter. Getting there by taxi from Lenk or by bus to Alpenrösli is preferable.

Directions

Hubelmatte - Ritzdole - Langermatte - Chäli - Simmenfälle

This snowshoe route is not marked!

Safety Instructions

For snowshoe routes, appropriate equipment and necessary expertise (avalanche knowledge, alpine skills) are mandatory! Those without experience in assessing avalanche situations in open terrain should go on snowshoe routes with a trained snow sports instructor or mountain guide.

Equipment

As with every snowshoe route, avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel are part of the equipment.

Tips

For those who still have plenty of energy in their legs on the Langermatte for the return journey, the ascent to Oberlaubhorn is worthwhile. The panorama of the Obersimmental is unique from here.
