This route offers a lot of variety. The start is at the Iffigenalp around the managed alpine pastures. The first ascent leads to the Iffigsee, whose water surface appears in different colors depending on the season and weather conditions. Continuing upwards, the path goes through a wide valley to the Wildhorn hut. From there the terrain becomes more barren and rocky. Past the Chilchli glacier, the highlight at the Schnidejoch at 2756 m above sea level is reached. In the European high mountains, the Schnidejoch is considered one of the most important archaeological sites: Since the hot summer of 2003, numerous individual finds have emerged from a melting ice field, the oldest of which are more than 6500 years old and come from Neolithic hunters and gatherers.

Here the canton changes and it continues on the Valais side towards Lac de Téné and over karstic and accordingly porous rock to the Plan des Roses. This is a surprisingly wide plain. A wet area that repeatedly has water accumulations, and in summer Valais Eringer cows graze here. Upon reaching the Rawil Pass the canton border is crossed again and then it goes only downhill. The path meanders impressively along the mountain down into the Iffig valley, back to the starting point of the route.

This long hike can be turned into a 2-day route with an overnight stay at the Wildhorn hut.
