From the start, the trail follows the Lötschberg Panorama Trail with beautiful views over the Kandertal and the Lötschberg railway. Varied paths through forest and meadows lead steadily uphill via Schlafegg, Under Geerene and Ober Geerene.
As you gain elevation, the terrain becomes more alpine and occasionally more demanding before reaching the summit of Gehrihorn. At the top, a wide panorama opens up from Lake Thun to the peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The return leads along a partly narrow ridge path towards Giesenen and descends via Mitholz.
Approach
By car via Spiez - Frutigen or by car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.
Public Transport
South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kander Valley. For this point between Brig (38 min.) and Bern (61 min.), an hourly train service is in operation – this is an ideal meeting point for many tours.
Parking
The destination has been decided, and so has the parking space - on this map, drivers can quickly and easily find the right parking option in the Oberland municipality. Well then: engine off, running shoes on!
Directions
Follow the Lötschberg Panorama Trail towards Schlafegg, then continue via Under Geerene and Ober Geerene to Gehrihorn. From there head towards Giesenen and descend to Mitholz. Return to Kandersteg on the same route.
