From Kandersteg train station, this trail leisurely follows the Kander river towards the Scout Center. At the latest there, trail poles may be unpacked. The winding trail ascends over narrow paths up to the alpine farm below Rhyharts and rewards runners with a wonderful view over the entire community. Refreshed, it then gently descends again to the Lohner alpine farm and back to the starting point. A Fortuna Trail that leads runners right into the wild romantic alpine world of the region.

Approach

By car via Spiez – Frutigen or the car shuttle train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.

Directions

A route for endurance: After the flat first kilometers, this trail changes rhythm. From the Scout Center, the path leads up via switchbacks through Schneitböde to the alpine farm below Rhyharts. The path mostly runs through forests, making it cool and shady – and beautiful due to the lush surroundings. Once at the top, a short break is mandatory before runners start the descent again. This leads via the Lohner alpine farm, the Alpbach river, and Schwarzbachschwendli back to the valley. Those lucky enough to enjoy this trail during the alpine season will be accompanied by gentle bell sounds and will repeatedly encounter grazing animals along the way.
