From Elsigenalp, the path climbs gently up to the Golitschen Pass. From there, the path leads down through steep, flower-filled mountain meadows to Golitschenalp. At Golitschenalp, a cosy alpine hut with a charming little restaurant invites you to stop for a bite to eat. The menu is modest, but lovingly prepared delicacies await hungry walkers. The hut is only open during the summer grazing season – from mid-June to early September.

The rest of the descent from the Golitschenalp to Kandersteg is quite a challenge: in places, the path leads steeply down into the valley via very high stone steps. You can’t help but marvel at how the cows manage to tackle this route at the start and end of summer to spend their summer months on the alp.

Approach

Leave the A6 / A8 motorway at the Spiez exit towards "Kandersteg / car shuttle train". Continue to Reichenbach and Frutigen. In Frutigen, leave the bypass via the "Frutigen South" exit towards Adelboden up to Achseten. Follow the signpost "Elsigbach" in Achseten and turn left immediately after the second bridge towards Elsigbach.

Parking

Parking is available at the valley station of the Elsigenalp aerial cableway. The parking fee is CHF 5.–. More free parking spaces are available at the mountain inn Höchst on Metsch.
