From Kandersteg railway station, follow the BLS line into the valley. At the end of Eisbahnweg, turn left over the bridge and immediately right into Hüttematteweg. Pass the beautifully preserved Ruedihus dating from 1853, cross the road and walk towards the Waldhotel Doldenhorn. Before the hotel, turn right into the forest, from where the ascent begins. The path winds its way up through the forest in many hairpin bends to the next junction, where you have to keep left. The path now winds gently up and down through the mountain forest to Undere Biberg. Here it meets up with the hut path coming from Bärentritt.

The path through the shady forest becomes a little steeper again and then climbs steeply along the stream before joining up with the alpine path leading over from the Fisialp on the Obere Biberg. From there, there are still around 100 metres of ascent to the Doldenhornhütte.

The hut is located on a hilltop which offers a fascinating panoramic view of the valley, Lake Oeschinen and the mountains. The best spot for this is a few metres above the Doldenhornhütte.
