You quickly gain altitude through varied woodland sections. As you climb higher, beautiful views of the Kandertal valley open up. The final section leads across alpine terrain up to the Doldenhornhütte, which stands high above the valley offering stunning views. A varied tour with a challenging character and magnificent views over Lake Oeschinen.
Approach
By car via Spiez - Frutigen or by car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.
Public Transport
South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kander Valley. For this point between Brig (38 min.) and Bern (61 min.), an hourly train service is in operation – this is an ideal meeting point for many tours.
Parking
The destination has been decided, and so has the parking space - on this map, drivers can quickly and easily find the right parking option in the Oberland municipality. Well then: engine off, running shoes on!
Directions
The starting point of your running adventure is at the Reformed Church in Kandersteg. From Kandersteg railway station, follow the BLS line into the valley. At the end of Eisbahnweg, turn left over the bridge and then immediately right onto Hüttematteweg. Passing the beautifully preserved Ruedihus, cross the road and head towards the Waldhotel Doldenhorn. Just before the hotel, a forest path branches off to the right – this is where the ascent begins.
The path winds its way up through the dense mountain forest in numerous hairpin bends. At the next junction, keep left. The path now runs gently up and down through the shady forest to the Undere Biberg.
From here, the climb becomes steeper again. The path climbs steeply alongside the stream until you reach the Obere Biberg, where the alpine path from Fisial joins it. It is now about 100 metres of elevation gain to the Doldenhornhütte.
