This hike leads from the Sunnbüel mountain station towards Spittelmatte. Then the path sharply turns left down to the Schwarzbach. After that, turn right onto the steep Gurnigelweg. Sure-footedness is required in the impressive gorge before you finally reach the wild romantic Gasterntal through open mountain forest. Here the route joins the young Kander river.
Public Transport
Please board towards Gemmipass and Arvensee! The AFA bus runs hourly from Kandersteg station to the valley station of the cable car in 10 minutes. Then continue comfortably by gondola to 1936 m above sea level.
Parking
The destination is fixed, the parking spot as well – on this map vehicle drivers quickly and easily find the suitable parking option in the Oberland community. Well then: engine off, hiking shoe on!
Safety Instructions
Even open hiking trails can still be partly covered with snow. Proceed at your own risk: Tourism Adelboden-Lenk-Kandersteg assumes no liability for the use of local routes.
Equipment
In the partly exposed terrain of this red-white marked route, sure-footed hikers with good trekking shoes will feel at home.
Packed cervelat? Barbecue spots are available both at the end of the Schwarzbach Gorge and next to the Waldhaus restaurant. Bath towels and bikinis then come into use on the wide Gasterne plain, where the wild Kander winds its meanders.
Tips
The Waldhaus restaurant lies idyllically in the Gasternholz, centrally located are the Kander and Alpstübli near the valley station.
