This demanding yet highly scenic trail starts at the church in Kandersteg and initially follows the hiking path towards Allmenalp. The ascent climbs steadily to Obere Allme, where the mountain path branches off to the left.
A more technical section follows across a rocky slope. The narrow trail requires sure-footedness and a head for heights, but rewards with impressive views of the surrounding mountains. After the ascent, the scenic Alpschele ridge is reached and followed to the summit of Alpschelehubel. This section, with its outstanding panorama, is one of the highlights of the tour.
The descent leads via Alpschelenalp into the idyllic Üschenental. Across meadows and along mountain streams, the trail returns to Kandersteg. A varied tour with alpine character and plenty of nature to enjoy.
Note: Due to steep and partly exposed sections, this tour is only suitable for experienced and sure-footed trail runners.
Approach
By car via Spiez - Frutigen or by car train from Goppenstein to Kandersteg.
Public Transport
South of the Lötschberg, north of the Kander Valley. For this point between Brig (38 min.) and Bern (61 min.), an hourly train service is in operation – this is an ideal meeting point for many tours.
Parking
The destination has been decided, and so has the parking space - on this map, drivers can quickly and easily find the right parking option in the Oberland municipality. Well then: engine off, running shoes on!
Directions
From the village of Kandersteg, head south towards the International Scout Centre. Turn right there and climb steeply via Ryharts. Then continue via Allmenalp and Obere Allme towards Alpschelehubel.
