Follow the village road valleywards to the fork (15 minutes) and continue up the mountain road branching off to the right into the sunny high valley of Stiegelschwand. Behind the wild Stiegelbach, you reach the Schärmtanne restaurant (1 hour, paved road). The road continues past the bridge at Horn (15 minutes) with magnificent wilderness and via the Aebi restaurant on the opposite valley slope into Gilbach. The return route from Aebi can also be taken via the footpath down to Allenbach (car-free, unsuitable for strollers).
