Lynx Trail – A keen eye
Did you know that the lynx can jump more than 5 metres? On this exciting trail you’ll learn all about this and much more to do with the behaviour of this feline predator, its way of life, and the environment it lives in. The hike begins at the Leiterli mountain station of the Betelberg gondola lift. The well-maintained track slopes gently downward and takes you past the famous Hasler high-alpine moorland. Simply follow the lynx or fox tracks. Where might the animals be hiding? Placed along the trail are life-sized mock-ups of the lynx as well as its prey such as deer and chamois. As the lynx is an extremely shy and cautious animal, you should not expect to actually see a real, live lynx. However, the trail operators have put a great deal of effort into the stations along the trail, which combine fun elements and art: wooden play stations to keep the children excited and happy during the hike. Once you have hiked past the works of art you will reach the campfire site. Take a break there and practise your long-jump skills. See if you can jump as far as a lynx. Before you reach the end of the trail at Restaurant Wallegg, the amazing wooden sculptures by the Brienz woodcarving workshop are well worth a look. From the restaurant you can walk back to the valley station of the gondola lift, either directly or with a slight detour through the Wallbach Gorge.
